我的家乡在荆州。平时，我对家乡的环境也不大了解 。这几天，我们班组织同学们进行了一次综合实践活动，对家乡的环境进行了一次调查，调查的主要对象就是荆州的护城河。这次调查让我受益匪浅。
通过实地调查和上网查资料，我了解到以前的荆州护城河污染十分严重。护城河两侧共有二十多个排污口，每天城区的生活及工业污水排入护城河，直接排入的总污水量约5万立方米。因此，河水变成了浑浊的墨绿色。居住在附近的居民和过往的行人也很不爱护环境，把垃圾随随便便仍进河里，使河水的污染进一步加重。由于护城河就是死水，无法流动，河底淤泥非常多，水面上漂浮着大量的蓝藻，河底的沉积物散发着臭味。人们从这里经过，都要捂着鼻子，加快脚步。
护城河的污染成为了荆州人的心中之痛。在广大市民的期盼下，市政府对护城河进行了彻底的治理。经过清淤、补水、截污、绿化……护城河面貌焕然一新。

比如在南方常见的酸雨，酸雨是指燃烧煤、石油等化学燃料燃烧时产生的二氧化硫和氮氧化合物，在空气中的与水分结合，从而形成的ph小于五点六的雨水，所有中所含的酸性物质是硫酸与硝酸。酸雨的形成就是与化工厂的排放的废气有关，酸雨可以让水土的营养不被植物吸收，酸雨可以让水酸化，从而让水中生活的动物死亡，酸雨可以腐蚀建筑建筑……有的一些工厂为了图一时的方便，排放了大量有害气体，日积月累，渐渐形成了酸雨，一场酸雨都会给生态系统带来巨大破坏。
